The Mismatched Mirror consists of four sides, each hand-carved and shaped in a distinct way. Inspired by the resourcefulness of everyday South Africans, this mirror pays homage to their ability to make what they need from what they can find. Nodding to its conceptual ancestors—the plastic chair with one water jug for a leg, and a door balanced on misshapen concrete blocks posing as a dinner table—this piece feels no need to be symmetrical.
